Edward Eckert, Jr., DDS

Dr. Eckert then moved to the Grand Strand and founded Coastal Carolina Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In doing so, he became the first oral surgeon to ever serve the Horry and Georgetown Counties. Because of Dr. Eckert’s hard work and dedication, the practice has thrived ever since. Dr. Eckert is on staff at four different local area hospitals. He is also an instructor at Horry Georgetown Technical College where he teaches Oral Pathology and serves on the Board of Directors.

Brian Harsha, DDS, MS (Retired 2023)

Dr. Harsha has practiced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Horry County since 1986. He is on the staff of both Grand Strand Regional Medical Center as well as Conway Hospital. He has an active practice that includes wisdom tooth removal or other extractions, dental implants for restoring single teeth or full mouth restoration. He also provides cosmetic facial surgery that includes botox, fillers, laser resurfacing, blepharoplasty, and face lifts.

Elliott Maxwell, DMD

Dr. Maxwell has extensive experience in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, bone grafting, office-based anesthesia, facial traumatic injuries and reconstruction, facial cosmetic surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology, and orthognathic surgery. Dr. Maxwell also places a heavy practice emphasis of using the latest technology and 3-D imaging for dental implant/reconstructive procedures. He is on staff at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and Conway Medical Center. Dr. Maxwell is the past president of the Grand Strand Dental Society. He is a faculty member at the Zimmer Institute where he lectures and helps train other dentists and specialists on cutting-edge dental implant procedures.

Reece Cofer, DDS

fter completing his doctorate, Dr. Cofer began a 4-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. During his training, Dr. Cofer gained extensive surgical experience in dentoalveolar surgery and wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting and complex dental implant reconstructive procedures, facial trauma and reconstruction, benign and malignant pathology of the head and neck, corrective jaw surgery, cleft lip and palate, and facial cosmetic surgery. In order to provide the highest level of safety and care to his patients, Dr. Cofer was trained extensively in both office-based anesthesia and general anesthesia. He completed additional rotations in pediatric anesthesia, general surgery, trauma surgery, plastic surgery, surgery critical care, otolaryngology, and internal medicine.

Michael Johnson, DDS

After leaving football, Dr. Johnson worked for NOAA in their earth systems research lab where the research team won the Nobel prize for atmospheric research. Dr. Johnson went back to school at the University of Colorado where he received his dental degree. He then went on to complete an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery internship at Louisiana State University. Following the internship, he was accepted into a 4 year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where he was chief resident in his final year. After completing residency, Dr. Johnson continued his education with an accredited fellowship in Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery under Dr. John Griffin.

Chad Adams, DDS

After that year of training, he then worked at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital for two years as a General Dentist/Assistant Professor for the GPR residents in both clinical and operating room settings. Dr. Adams then completed a non-categorical internship position at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee. Following the internship, he was accepted into their four-year residency position where he was chief resident in his final year. Dr. Adams recently moved to the Grand Strand area, along with his wife, Lindsey and his two dogs, Oliver and Brinkley.

Jeffrey Aycock, DMD

He completed a four-year oral & maxillofacial surgery residency program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX from 2013 – 2017. He was also an assistant professor in the program following the completion of his training. Dr. Aycock is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the ECU School of Dental Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
